ADVICE

The NUJ’s work representing journalists in every sector of the media and at every level means that we really understand career issues and training needs, particularly those unique to the current economic climate.

We enjoy close links with many colleges and universities offering journalism courses through our professional training committee (ProfCom).

If you’re facing redundancy we can provide you with legal advice. We also run a series of legal workshops equipping members with the know-how to negotiate better redundancy terms (or even prevent redundancies), and boosting their confidence through learning about their rights.

Should the worst happen, we also have several courses aimed at helping you to get back on your feet and start again. Try our Career Focus workshop, designed to help you decide on and take the next step in your career.

If you’re just starting out in the industry, you could try some of our skills-based courses to help you compete in the jobs market. From podcasting to page design, our courses can help you get that first foot on the ladder.

Union reps looking for advice and guidance to pass on to their colleagues will find information on what the NUJ can offer. But this website is more than just a prospectus for our courses: it is a resource in itself and an active part of our training programme.

Explore, and make the most of it.
