Podcasting (Introduction) - 1 Day

A one-day introductory course for journalists and those who want an understanding of podcasting and the practical skills to gather and produce compelling audio for a podcast.

Who should attend

Journalists and those with no broadcast experience who have worked in newspapers, magazines, on the web and other sections of the media who need practical audio production skills to produce a podcast.

Qualifications

Those taking part should have sound editorial judgement, good computer skills and the ability to communicate with enthusiasm and clarity.

Learning Outcomes

This course focuses on teaching you to produce and mix compelling audio for a podcast. You will learn how to:
• operate portable digital recording equipment
• use your voice with confidence
• acquire the full range of techniques necessary to carry out interviews and what makes an interesting interview
• appreciate the importance of ambient sound and to use it to full effect
• compile an unscripted audio diary
• edit audio material digitally, both on the digital portable recorder and using editing software
• mix sound
• produce a 15-30 minute podcast – the length of the transmission will depend on the number of participants.

You will also gain a basic understanding of podcasting and its place within the media: What is podcasting and what makes it different to broadcasting?
