Dealing with Bullying, Harassment and Stress

Content

This course is part of the NUJ officers’ programme, delivered in conjunction with the General Federation of Trade Unions and Ruskin College, Oxford. It is designed to develop the key skills and knowledge that will enable reps to deal more effectively with issues related to bullying, harassment and stress.

The course will be taught using highly interactive methods, such as small group work, discussion and student centred activities.

It will cover the topics and issues essential to being more confident as an NUJ representative. Such as:
  • Defining what is meant by bullying, harassment and stress and the causes and effects on your members
  • How to use health and safety standards to help challenge and deal with bullying, harassment and stress
  • dentify key arguments to be used with employers with a view to reducing the incidences of bullying, stress and harassment
  • Apply a trade union strategy when dealing with issues raised within your workplace

Who should attend?

All NUJ reps who have to deal with issues related to bullying, harassment and stress in their chapels and branches.

Qualifications

No formal qualifications are required, just a desire to want to be more effective at challenging bullying, harassment and stress.

Expected learning outcomes

Be aware of the nature of bullying, harassment and stress and understand their effects on NUJ members

Use best practice when preparing to handle and progress problems related to bullying, harassment and stress

Have developed a plan of action to prevent and challenge bullying, harassment and stress

Further courses to consider: Health and Safety, Representing Members, Negotiating and Bargaining Skills.

This is an accredited course which will be awarded 3 Open College Network credits at either levels 1, 2 or 3.
