Content

This course is part of the NUJ officers’ programme, delivered in conjunction with the General Federation of Trade Unions and Ruskin College, Oxford. It is specifically designed to develop the skills and knowledge of representatives in the BBC.

The course will be taught using highly interactive methods, such as small group work, discussion and student centred activities.

It will cover the topics and issues essential to being a confident BBC NUJ representative. Such as;

  • Identifying your main roles and responsibilities as a rep in the BBC
  • Considering the facilities that are available from the BBC to support your role as a rep
  • Developing your knowledge and an understanding of how your BBC grievance, appeals and disciplinary procedures work and the role of the NUJ rep
  • Beginning to develop a plan of action, using the BBC harassment policy on how your chapel can challenge issues relating to bullying, harassment and stress
  • Applying a strategic approach to preparing for joint negotiations and have an opportunity to practise some key negotiating techniques and tactics

Who should attend?

All new BBC reps as well as more experienced reps who would welcome the opportunity to refresh some of their knowledge and skills.
